I didn't shout "PUT IN TIMLIN!" at the TV. I thought it. I didn't shout "DON"T ASK THE PITCHER IF HE FEELS OK AFTER HE HAS ALL OF A SUDDEN LET THREE HITS WITH NO OUTS IN THE EIGHTH WHEN YOU ARE UP BY THREE RUNS!!!" at the TV. I thought it.
So...no Bill Buckner boot this time - just a manager coddling a star perhaps but in the end, the universe has not altered and the Bosox are not in the World Series. I even wore my Nomah tee bought at New Britain, Conn., their former double A site.
Fortunately, it is Friday, I have good work I can do, my new rocksteady compilation is here and I'll be nice to me all day. Sucks.

"No Virginia, there is no Santa Claus!"
I dislike the Yankees as much as I dislike the National League. For me, baseball is over for 2003.
There is always next year, right?

Interesting, most people claim Buckner's boot of Mookie Wilson's grounder to have been the play that lost the series. Actually, his boot allowed the tieing run to score in the 6th game, while the Sox were up 3 games to 2...eventually they lost the series to the Mets in 7 games. Just like the Cubbie fan, however, people will always remember something that had a small part to play in a series of events resulting in a collapse.
It was a good game last night, however, with lots of offense, great defensive plays and lots of drama, from curses to knuckleballs. And, that old Yankee-Sox rivalry. Kept me up most of the night. And like an good movie, it either made you laugh, cry or angry. All three for me.

Here is another good description of the feeling during the 8th as experienced in a Boston bar: via Scripting News.
