Lest I trigger a "Great Island Brag-Up" or GIB-U, I kept the title to the singular - especially in light of issues such as this.
That being said, I have to sing the praises of the New London waste depot which is part of the Island Waste Management Corporation, one of the current administrations many corporations through which public policy is purveyed through the guise and distance of a spun-off entity. I have been less than thrilled with aspects of the service - not limited to the demands of obedience required of the public compared to the openness and accountability of the entity.
Still, this little depot in the relative boonies is designed well and does what it does well. Your vehicle enters the paved area through a weigh scale. You unload different classes of waste, recycling, hazardous material, avacado coloured household goods, and composables in different areas - often from ramps allowing the bins to be quickly replaced by 18 wheeler when full. When you leave you are weighed again and pay for the kilos of what you dropped off. Systematic, efficient, clean, friendly, cheap. Over two runs, about 20 heavy bags of everything from old blankets to batteries were put each in their place for 15 bucks. Dandy when ditching the junk of a decade.
