Canada is like a different country according to the Washington Post. Go figure. When I was a kid and Trudeau was Prime Minister, we knew we were not the States and that we did things differently, and not just with the beer or saying "eh" from time to time. Along came Mulroney in the 1980's and, along with Ronnie Ray Gun, Irish eyes were smiling and Free Trade agreeing and for a while we were looking like the 51st state. This summer, it's all being put to right.
Remember how a few years ago, the courts confirmed it was not obscene to walk around topless whatever your gender? Remember how that was the end of civilization? Trudeau left the bomb - The Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Now we, the citizens, have dope smokin', gay marryin', tyrant bashin' powers!
To paraphrase the man himself: How far will The Charter go? Just watch it.

<i>The New York Times</i> has another article on the differences between Canada and the US. Not much new is added to the mix and it is interesting that most of the "experts" are at McGill. Did you know that it was Quebec that ensure Canada is left leaning? News to me. Most likely it is actually McGill.
