I need help - in many ways. Tonight's question is triggered by Steve's move into radio. I think this is neat. Neat is a word I have used since I was five in 1968 and I think it covers a range of good things. But I don't want to be just like Steve...at least that is my story in public and I am sticking to it. What I am interested in is the device that would replicate the old casette machine we had where we kids would mess around with audio - recording toilet flushes, the sound of a creaky door, making Halloween sound tapes that kind of thing.
What machine do I need to do this. Do I buy a tape recorder and convert its output to Mp3 or do I record direct to Mp3? Maybe I will have ambient sound option where you can listen to the sound of me typing as little kids racing in and out of the room screaming. I don't know about playing music like Radio Steve but as SOCAN and the Copyright Board have yet to determine the issue and SOCAN's proposal that a general fee will come from ISPs, there is a good chance that the practice will be essentially covered anyway. It would be nice to link to a file to listen to when I discuss a song.

Back in Holland I used to bring my MD player + microphone with me, everytime I was planning to play guitar. It worked perfect for me, but nowadays I would suggest that you look at MP3 players.

This is why Google sucks. I want to find references to portable digital recorders and there is no logic to the information brought back to me. Why doesn't google have some logical sorting in its returns. You waste a lot of time in life trying to guess Google's key words.

There's also Usenet (formerly dejanews): I find that I get more out of Usenet than all resources on the Web together.
