So can you really sum up a year of me? I started writing this thing first of all to force myself to write and also to record for myself what I think about. I do not care care if it spelled well or interesting so much as that it is simply done. I have a few short term diaries from my past and I find them invaluable as glimpses into who I was as opposed to my recollection of me filtered by intervening time and experience. So what do I know about the me of 2003 now?
- I am an argumentative bastard - this does not show up so much here as some of my favorite blogs to the right such as Craig in PEI or Michael in Atlanta;
- I like music. I forgot how much I like music and I am grateful that I got to participate in the founding of Switching to Glide with David and Mike, neither of whom I have met or conversed with other than via the internet;
- I actually like law. Private practice had just about killed that but I find, for example, following the cases comnig out on s. 7 liberty a blast;
- I do have what was described by a friend years ago as a "butterfly mind" - connections occur to me and grab my attention which may not be important or interesting to others. Most are tedious and not of much value but a few...;
- I am average - as is everyone I have come into contact. I do not know the best of anything and really do not care. I am amazed and deeply embarrassed by those who lack an understanding of their own unimportance;
- I am, at one time or another and most often inadvertently, interesting - as it everyone I have come into contact. I find it sad the most everyone does not consider much of what they think worthwhile. Blame celebrity;
- I am a lucky bastard, in a fine marriage with good kids a interesting place and a worthwhile job. I'll never be rich but I know how to brew beer, make bread, buy and sell a house, play penny whistle, make a deal, grow food, swim, sing and snooze. I would be valuable in a post-apocalyptical situation if there were sources of yeast and barley around.

Well done, Alan. Happy New Year to you and your family from your old stomping grounds on PEI.
In 2004, I hope you remember to say "I love you" at least once a day to your spouse, your child, your parent, your siblings; but not to your secretary, your nurse, your masseuse, your hairdresser or your tennis instructor. And most important...keep Craig in line. I love it.

All the best, Jean. You have one hour ahead of us so make sure it is well prepared! All the best to brother Dave from both me and my brother father.
