My site comes up number 2 when you google my name. There are many, many more famous people out there with my name that should come up first, but I guess having my name at the bottom of every post boosts my ranking. My site comes up in some pretty random searches too though.

I'd say the algorithms need a bit more tweaking.

It is such a false god that my post on RSS acting like a virus - in that it will seize the internet real good if successful - is now #15 on Google if you put in "RSS virus" and #3 if you put in "RSS virus Winer" in honour of Dave3, high priestess of syndication yakkitry.<p>Be clear. By poking fun and raising a real - and really funny - prospect, I Google-leap over all the nerds writing technical papers and the guri* linking together in a internet based marcramé wall hanging of HTML braininess.<p><font size="1">*[<i>Gurhâi</i>, translated high priests, is really the Persian plural of <i>guru</i> but I figured none of you would get that, guessing few Persian sacred text scholars are among you...but I could be wrong.]</font>

More on our useless Google addiction:<blockquote class="smalltext">In my opinion, Google today is far from the great search engine it was in those far-off days, yet I still use it. <p>Even knowing that it indexes only a small proportion of the web using a technique that too often gives precedence to pages that lack authority or coherence, that it is skewed by multiple blog links and can be manipulated by unscrupulous advertisers, doesn't stop me typing search terms into my toolbar and feasting on the results. <p>What's worse, I've let both of my children believe that 'search the web' and 'Google' are roughly synonymous, even though I teach my journalism students at City University that they should never rely on a single source, online or off.</blockquote>

Weird - I am fluctuating between 11 and 17 on the google search for "rss virus". Hmm. Should I fix the stats myself by clicking through to my own site or incite others to do it on my behalf? Questions, questions, questions....

I am trying to figure out where Shirvan is. I think it is Azerbaijan. Having central Caucasians in the clan who are now at peace with the Azeri leads me to extend the paw to Mahdi, our new Azeri correspondent. He appears to blog but I am no good with Azeri script, however beautiful it is.
