One of my favorite parts of the BBC - and a fantasy employer from my teen radio nerd days - is the Monitoring Service:
BBC Monitoring, based in Caversham in southern England, selects and translates information from radio, television, press, news agencies and the Internet from 150 countries in more than 70 languages.I never picked up enough Urdu for the exam so I settled for something else.
Not only does the BBC create masses of radio, TV and web output but they have a staff of 500 dedicated to listening. You can buy subscriptions to the detailed stuff if you are, say, an international businessman wondering what local radio in Central Asia is saying bout your development in their country. They also post worldwide media reports to the BBC's general website.
I have added a link under Favoured Reading, right.
